Mimomax is renowned for the spectral efficiency of our solution. There are many obvious components which contribute to the number of bits/sec/Hz we can achieve (such as MIMO and 256 QAM) however, there are some more subtle aspects which are worth highlighting.
Sophisticated compression plays a notable role in our ability to deliver superior efficiency. Standard Robust Header Compression (RoHC) compresses IP, RTP, TCP, ESP and UDP headers. Mimomax’s proprietary RoHC goes a step further and compresses the Ethernet header and VLAN tags completely.
In a double tagged system, with 8 bytes associated with both the outer and inner tags plus a further 14 bytes for the Ethernet, we have 22 bytes which are removed entirely after the session commences and only reinstated at the end of the session. Furthermore, our system can compress as many as 32 sessions in parallel. As an example of the bandwidth efficiency gained, in a scenario with UDP or TCP with double tags, using Mimomax’s compression results in a reduction from 62 bytes of header down to only 6 bytes. This is ideal for IP/SCADA sessions which are known to be rarely terminated and are abundant with IP header bytes.
The use of QinQ (also known as stacking or double VLAN) provides a fully segregated Layer 2 network. The segregation enabled by QinQ allows for the more efficient use of bandwidth by minimizing the unnecessary multiplication of traffic, thereby preventing the creation of large broadcast domains. The implementation of QinQ strengthened by efficient data compression therefore results in a highly scalable, broadcast-domain-segregated, multi-tier solution for multipoint networking.
Finally, by enabling the supported Split Horizon, the network can mitigate packet bouncing which may, in some scenarios, double traffic across the link. Minimizing the internal ‘chatter’ between the Tier 1 radios via the Split Horizon feature therefore further optimizes the efficiency of the link. It also adds an element of security by preventing unwanted connections between remote radios.
