Project Summary

As part of the evolution of their grid, Salt River Project required a new communications network for centralized monitoring and control of their distributed power and water systems.  SRP selected MiMOMax Wireless to design a private and secure Field Area Network which would provide coverage and functionality for a large scale network of thousands of endpoints across the greater Phoenix area.

The new communications network was required to support:

  • Connectivity to multiple SCADA, DER and DA devices;
  • Saturation coverage via multiple channels and greater frequency re-use;
  • Connection to a multitude of solar inverters to allow monitoring & control;
  • Replacement of carrier-based AMI backhaul;
  • Greater electrification throughout their service area.

“Having concluded that the 700MHz A-block provided the best option to meet our future electric grid automation needs, we defined requirements, performed an in-depth assessment of technology providers and selected MiMOMax Wireless for the platform to build our Field Area Network (FAN).  MiMOMax demonstrated both superior technology and the ability to offer a holistic approach where we could proactively and securely manage the network.”
